Welcome to the Rocket Marching Band
We are a group of students that share a love of music, teamwork, and the thrill of a healthy competitive spirit.  The marching season is an extensive one. We begin in the late summer with band camp. This takes us to Camp Lake Ann near Traverse City. You will learn how to march drill, flag work (guard), the show music, teamwork, and much more. Although we work hard with music and drill practice, there is time for fun. We swim, have camp fires, skit night, etc.

After band camp we move into the competition and football game performance season. The band typically participates in Scholastic Bands and MSBOA. These competitions take us to schools around Michigan where we match skills with other bands. We also perform at all John Glenn football home games, in the JG Homecoming Parade and much more. Parents are encouraged to attend competitions to lend their support!

After the football season, and the on-field competitions, there are the parades! In the past we have participated in the Allen Park Lighted Holiday Parade, the Garden City Holiday Parade, the Detroit St. Patrick's Day parade, and the Wayne-Westland Memorial Day parade.

The Rockets have also been the feature band to welcome Santa to the Westland Mall in November and the Easter Bunny in the spring.

During this busy schedule we do our best to represent John Glenn in a positive and professional manner. We hope this is a group you will want to be a part of and we welcome all of our new members each year for the Rocket Marching Band season!

Minimum Requirements

Note: Students in marching band need to be enrolled in a band class. Those interested in color guard, DO NOT need to be in band class. Regardless if you are in marching band or color guard, going to band camp is mandatory. This is were the skills necessary for a successful season are learned, as well as the show music.

Rocket Explosion (Winter Guard)

ROCKET EXPLOSION, JOHN GLENN'S WINTERGUARD PROGRAM IS A GO FOR THE 2014-2015 SEASON! BE SURE TO BECOME FRIENDS ON FACEBOOKS G-FORCE WINTERGUARD, JOHN GLENN MUSIC AND JGMUSIC PICTURES FOR IMPORTANT INFORMATION AND UPDATES. We are competing in Regional A Class for MCGC (Michigan Color Guard Circuit), and we could not be more excited! Adali Stevenson Students and parents are able to join and volunteer also! We are incredibly excited for the opportunity to do this, but parent support is crucial to our endeavors. Without parent involvement, this wouldn't be able to happen.  If you are interested in participating in Color Guard in the off-season, Rocket explosion is the place for you.  Sign-ups and organization meetings occur just after the football season ends.  You will find announcements on the page.  You can also contact our Booster President, Jennifer Dudley.
